48th Retreat Symposium and 20th anniversary of Prof. Göken
From 12-14.10.22 the 48th Retreat Symposium of the Institute I took place in the Sattelbogener Hof in the beautiful Oberpfalz. The annual symposium has the character of an international conference due to the high-class English-language presentations given by PhD students and external guests. In particular, however, the community and the get-together also play a special role.
And this is exactly how the event has been perceived this year! Together with Prof. Björn Eckert (Alumni of Institute I) we celebrated the 20th anniversary of Prof. Göken as holder of the Institute on the first evening. With cake, sparkling wine and beer, the celebration was extraordinary, with some people ending at the coolest after-party in a long time. On Thursday afternoon, we climbed the Rattenberger Höhenweg to Riedeswald where we stopped at the Kreuzhaus. In the evening, Prof. Eric Jägle from the University of the Federal Armed Forces Munich enriched the event with a highly interesting presentation on the topic: “Some challenges and opportunities in metal additive manufacturing: new alloys, in-situ reactions and metamaterials.” We are looking forward to next year’s spinning class!
Many thanks to the Mitterbillers, all speakers and the great organization by Annalena Meermeier, Andreas Bezold and Heinz Werner Höppel!
