From 28 July to 2 August 2024, the 16th International Conference on Creep and Fracture of Engineering Materials and Structures (CREEP 2024) took place in Bangalore in southern India, which was organized under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Praveen Kumar at the Indian Institute of Science (IISC), who had also spent a few months at MSEI under Prof. Wolfgang Blum during his doctoral studies. As the name of the conference implies, the focus was on creep deformation of all types of metallic materials such as superalloys, steels, Ti alloys, high entropy alloys and Al alloys at high temperatures. The chair MSEI was represented by Dr. Steffen Neumeier, who gave a keynote talk on local phase transformation strengthening during creep of complex CoNiCr-based superalloys, and by Jakob Bandorf with his talk on the in-situ characterization of the creep behavior of single-crystalline Co-base superalloys using high-energy X-ray diffraction. During the conference dinner and the one-day conference excursion, which included a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Chennakeshava Temple as well as the Maharaja’s Palace in Mysuru, there was a unique opportunity to get to know the diverse culture of India.
