Servohydraulic fatigue test systems – MTS810/880
The servohydraulic test systems MTS 810 and 880 offer the possibility for mechanical characterization of materials under a variety of loading conditions due to the large available portfolio of modifications and fixtures at the institute.
The current setups are the result of continuous improvements and know-how developed over several decades at the institute of WW1.
The existing setups allow testing at loads up to 100kN, temperatures up to 1000°C as well as different environmental conditions, e.g. in dried air or in high vacuum.
Possible types of loading conditions include:
- Tension-compression fatigue
- Flexural fatigue
- Thermomechanical fatigue
- Thermal fatigue
- Quasi-static and cyclic fracture mechanics (e.g., on C(T) or SEN(B) specimens)
- Microstrain tests
The current main applications of these testing systems at the Institute WW1 are on the one hand the characterization of the fracture mechanical behavior of metallic laminate materials and identification of damage mechanisms and on the other hand the investigation of the fatigue properties of metallic high temperature materials under thermomechanical loading.
